Project Certification - Process

Certification is recommended from the very start of data acquisition for soil, wind and wave site-specific investigations. The earlier risks are detected, the earlier counter measures can be taken.

SGS’ step-by-step Project Certification will minimize the total project risk.

  • Verification of Design Basis: This includes assessment of all environmental conditions, e.g. wind, oceanographic, geotechnical and consequential load and design assumptions.
  • Verification of Detailed Design: This includes assessment of the combined load cases for the complete wind turbine, its support structure and electrical components as well as for the transformer platform, the cables and the J-tubes.
  • Manufacturing Survey: To assure quality during component production regular inspection visits at different manufacturers are performed. In pre-production meetings inspection and testing plans are established. Typically, manufacturing surveys include Supervision of Welding, NDT and Material Testing as well as Coating Inspections, Assembly Checks and Supervision of Test Runs for electrical and mechanical components. To select appropriate suppliers we recommend quality management and/or capability audits in the very beginning which can also be performed by SGS.
  • Marine Verification and Warranty Survey: To minimize risks during Offshore Transportation and Installation SGS performs Marine Verification and Warranty Survey.
  • Critical Commissioning: The critical Commissioning of the wind farm will be surveyed by SGS experts to ensure execution is according to the approved procedures.
  • In-Service Inspections: In addition to the Project Certificate issued in each of the above mentioned phases, SGS performs periodical In-Service inspections to maintain the Certificate. SGS’ periodical inspections of wind farms during its design life time include:
    • Wind Turbine Gear Boxes Oil Analyses and Tests
    • Monitoring and Inspections of Wind Turbine Blades
    • Inspections of Structural and Electrical Systems
    • Inspection of Coating and Corrosion Protection Systems
    • Coating Failure Analyses and Investigations

The above range of services will be tailored to suit the actual needs for verification in the project.
